How to Continue Number in Autocad

Default Autonumbering in MText - Continue?

After filling up a column with autonumbered mtext, we'll start a new column (a new mtext entity). We want to continue the numbering from where the first column left off.

My computer still has ABS 2006 on it. If I'm the one that starts the new column, I can just type the number, TAB, enter text, and it starts counting from the number I just entered.

Others in the office have AutoCAD 2008. Entering the number we want to start from deactivates autonumbering. We haven't found any way to force the number.

Is there a setting somewhere? Or is this just the way 2008 works compared to 2006?

if you were able to use 08, you could use the column feature in mtext and just have a continuous set of numbers broken into several columns

Try this. It's a LISP that autonumbers for you in a variety of different ways and it keeps track of where you left off. Just drop them in your Support folder. .BMP attached as well for the button.

Another way I found from "tip of the Month" is
MText numbering - can auto-number from a starting point other than 1, 1st have to have it start at one then change it thru a series of commands-see below:

    To Renumber MText lists:
    1. Start with mtext numbered....starting at 1, as AutoCAD automatically insists.
    2. In the mtext editor, right-click, under "Bullets and Lists" UNCHECK "Allow Bullets and Lists".
Note that the cursor moves from the beginning of the numbered item to the beginning of the number itself.
    3. Change the beginning number to whatever you want it to be.
    4. Right-click, under "Bullets and Lists" and check "Allow Bullets and Lists"
    5. Now, highlight every item following the first item but DON'T highlight the first item itself.
    6. Right-click, under "Bullets and Lists" and select "Continue".
    7. Exit the editor.

This was last months, tip of the month......

check this out, I found this from something Lynn Allen wrote:
If you've ever had to manually renumber a large number of text objects, we feel for you. It's
a tedious job editing one at a time. Isn't this the kind of mindless task computers were supposed to relieve us from doing?
Maintain your sanity by using the awesome TCOUNT Express Tool. It adds sequential
numbering to text objects. Each time you select a text object, the next number in the
sequence is entered. You can use TCOUNT both to add numbers
to alphabetic strings and to replace existing numbers already
present in the text objects. Bonus: You can add numbers either as
prefixes or suffixes to text, so no worries, mate. This thing really
    works!
What is most impressive about TCOUNT is how you can tell
it to sort according to the X or Y axis. If you have a bunch of text
arranged in a column-for example, sheet notes-TCOUNT starts
at the top and works its way down the list (in the Y direction),
incrementally renumbering. You don't even have to click each item
    in sequence-sweet. Here's an example command-line transcript:
    Command: TCOUNT
    Initializing...
    Select objects: 45 found
    Sort selected objects by [X/Y/Select-order]
    <Select-order>: Y
    Specify starting number and increment
    (Start,increment) <1,1>: (Enter)
    Placement of numbers in text
    [Overwrite/Prefix/Suffix/Find&replace..]
    115
    <Prefix>: Overwrite
    45 objects modified.

I just found it, I didn't know it but thought I'd share it with ya'll.
